This wide field image shows the vast IC 1396 nebula in which the Elephant trunk is just a small part of it.
This image is mapped in Hubble color scheme - S2 for Red, Ha for Green and O3 for Blue producing this artificial color image.
The majority of the nebula is Hydrogen gas - seen as Brownish yellow.
At the upper left part of the image is a rarely imaged obscure emission nebula catalogued as DA 568
This is a single frame covering about 3X3 degrees of the sky.
