Long Seridan to Ulu Magoh 7Feb-13Feb2008

We "balloon" into Long Seridan on the 7th of Feb. As usual there are all the usual faces at the terminal; Joyce' mom and dad, and others whom I can't remember their names. After a few queries, everybody seen to say that it will take us 3 hours to trek to Ulu Magoh. I wanted to see some Penans on visit to Seridan and Robin's wife told me that there are some in the "Rumah Sakai" opposite the Terminal. We went over and gave some food and angpow (since today is the 1st day of CNY)to the family from Ulu Magoh and a old lady who is suffering from malaria. The place is bare and most deplorable to say the least. Back at the terminal we left some of our spare clothings and handphone as there is no line for the next 6 days hoping to trek to Ulu Magoh, Long Napir(2days trekking)back to Long Balau by 4 wheel and then trek to Seridan. What actually happened is in the photos. Our guide was Micheal, bro-inlaw of Dawat Lupong, and Sidek. We ask for another guide and we got Lujan a 16 year old Nomadic Penan. Lujan was the one who know the way to Ulu Magoh and she walk "BARE FOOTED" all the way. We met her father, Sayat who is the chief of Magoh, her mom and her sisters. Lujan potraits in Faye's flickr tells a thousand words. She did not attend school due to "mild petite epilepsy" so we are thinking of how we can help her grow up to be like all of us Malaysian who has at least a minimum standard of living. And she is there crying out.!

It was a long night trek. Crossing and walking in the river, then climbing steep hills really slow down us.
