In the spring of 2013 I made the time in my life to travel to Costa Rica and spend just about five weeks there. The couple hundred photos here are chosen from the over 2000 taken during my time wandering there.
Everything I had read about the place was true, to a certain extent. What I found was a small country full of contrasts and very big in a lot of ways. I made a point to travel independently, no tour buses or tours of any kind really. Electing to stay away from places like Jaco, Tamarindo and anywhere else resembling a ‘Resort’ type community, my aim was visiting the more traditional beach and mountain towns. Not that they didn’t have more than enough of the tourist trade embedded in them, but it was for the most part a more authentic visit of the country. Utilizing public transportation I traveled the area from San Jose west, visiting the rainforests in the mountains and out to the coast. Although they seem a bit mixed up because I traveled back and forth to San Jose for dental appointments the photos here are pretty much in chronological order as my trip went. Towards the end of my time there I came to the realization that I wasn’t going to be able to travel as far and wide as I originally planned. Which was ok, I wasn’t running out of things to see and do by any means. I ended up back out on the west coast in a very cool beach town a friend had recommended to me, riding my bike for miles of beach every morning, becoming a hammock master in the afternoons and witnessing a magical sunset every evening.
