images of wansdyke

a mysterious defensive earthwork from the Dark Ages.In parts, spectacularly impressive, even today, possibly 1500 years after it was dug,and in some parts almost gone, due to modern farming methods or effects of nature. It is not known exactly when the Wansdyke was constructed,or by whom, but it was mentioned by the Saxon Chronicles in AD577,and it wasn't constructed by the Romans, giving a period of about 160 years at the beginning of the Dark Ages. Some say,Arthurian.
