Now the folk of Annan are justifiably proud of their association with Scotland's greatest Hero, namely Robert The Bruce. There's even a statue of him on the old Town Hall tower.Very impressive. But,the historical records state that the great flood of AD1177,washed away about half of the motte and bailey at Annan ; leaving not much more than we see today. For one thing, the castle was on the wrong side of the river, once Bruce became King of Scotland, by which time his family headquarters was at Lochmaben, about 10 miles to the North.
