Constructed from local red sandstone. The Annandale Way,runs from the source of the River Annan,at the Devil's Beeftub, just north of Moffat, winding it's way through the fertile valley, resplendent in it's natural beauty, steeped in it's bloody past and it's people who have survived and prospered throughout their turbulent history.(I can't believe I actually wrote that). One of the problems associated with any region, originating a route through it is the inevitable question, alright, but why didn't you include place X or point Y.I'd have included the Grey Mare's Tail waterfall.A magnificent sight.OK it's not on the River Annan, but feeds a tributary called the Moffat Water.So.And how can you stroll down Annandale and not visit Burnswark, visible from almost all of Annandale, complete with it's Roman forts and camps and spectacular views from the hill's summit. The route doesn't even take in the Repentance Tower;goes near it,but not to it.And there's lots of other places I could mention.eg The Pillar of Warmanbie, washed away in the great floods of 1777.Was it really a Roman bridge support,as many high fliers would have us believe?AND SO ON.
