Rowan tree with lots of berries.Rowan trees were believed to ward off evil spirits.The yew tree by the porch was also believed,in ancient times,to ward off evil.This demonstrates the incorporation of ancient/pre-Christian beliefs;the dumbing down of the Christian message.
