Due to the horror walking conditions of the previous day,caused by the horrendous amount of rain in the preceding weeks,I ignored the advice of mine hosts,who knew all the paths,and I decided to include a visit to Barbury Castle in my agenda.So,I didn't follow "The Route",I would walk independently along another bridleway,nearby.Now,in retrospect,the words"we did warn you" have greater impact.
