poke net fishing in the solway firth

A morning spent going out to the poke nets to collect the morning's catch.George,my host,a young 70,reckons that in it's heyday, there were 34 lines of poke nets on the Annan side of the Solway estuary. Now there are just 4.He said it's a dying game as there's quite a lot of work involved and nowadays folk don't want to know.He and his partner, look upon it now, more like a hobby.George's nets must be on a specific alignment and he pays the local government for a licence to fish.
