KaiRaku-En was built by Nariaki Tokugawa (1899-1860), the ninth Lord of Mito. The name of the garden, "KaiRaku", means "to share pleasures with people", and the garden was open to the vassals of Mito Clan and all people of the vassalage for their education, intellectual entertainments and amusement.
It has more than 3000 trees. In the main garden, "ume" (Prunus mume), "take" (bamboo), "kirishima-tsutsuji"(Rhododendron obtusum), and "miyaginohagi" (Lespedeza thunbergii) are planted.
During the spring festival, some people dressed in old traditional style are meeting you in the park.
A beautiful gallery showing sensitivity and skill. Interesting, too, for those of us not so familiar with your lovely country. You are very good at "KaiRaku!"
