Singapore Orchid Garden (December 2008)

The National Orchid Garden of Singapore is quite large, about 7-8 acres, with beautiful landscaping. There are 2,000 varieties of hybrid plants, some of which are very rare. Many of the orchids originated from the orchid gardens' orchid breeding program, which began in 1928. A highlight if the N.O.G. is the "VIP Orchid Garden" which contains dozens of hybrids named after visiting heads of state such as Margaret Thatcher and Benazir Bhutto. There is also a spectacular collection of Bromeliads in the Yuen-Peng McNeice Bromeliad Collection. The landscaping, trails, fountains and sculptures at the N.O.G. are great for wondering around. Take your time since it can be steamy, especially at midday.
