Shanghai’s Astor Place Hotel is an architectural gem located in the heart of the Bund, amongst many British colonial era and historic buildings. Established in 1846 as the Richards Hotel and Restaurant on the Bund in Shanghai, it has been in its present location since 1858. The Astor House Hotel in Shanghai has had a colorful history. The hotel has also experienced periods of decline, closings, renovation and reopening. The latest renovation was in 2006. Also, many famous people have stayed there including: Charlie Chaplin, Albert Einstein, Bertrand Russell, Ulysses S. Grant, famous Italian scientist Guglielmo Marchese Marconi and famous American author Edgar Snow. No other hotel in Shanghai is as rich in history as the Astor Place Hotel. Its history continues.
