Lake Ashi, Japan (September 2012)

Lake Ashi (or Ashinoko Lake) is a scenic lake in Hakone National Park, Japan. It is a crater lake that lies along the southwest wall of the caldera of Mount Hakone, a complex volcano. The lake is known for its views of Mt. Fuji and its numerous hot springs. A number of pleasure boats and ferries traverse the lake, providing scenic views. Many tourists take a combination Mt. Fuji and Lake Ashi tour, since they are right next to each other. Lake Ashi and Hakone National Park are beautiful and can be seen in a day-trip from Tokyo either by bus or by bullet train. If time permits, they should not be missed.
