The country of Barbados is a Caribbean coral island and a former British colony. On the West Coast, coral shore beaches of fine white sand stretch along an azure sea. On the East Coast, trade winds blow heavy surf against a rocky shore. Coral reefs along the Barbados shoreline provide excellent snorkeling and scuba diving. Barbados, a flat coral island with excellent beaches, also has rolling hills with an interesting distribution of flora and fauna. There is a vast array of caves and underground lakes, which provide an excellent supply of the purest drinking water in the world. Barbados is unique, since it is actually two landmasses that merged together over the years. Barbados can also boast lots of art, activities, nightlife, music, history and some great restaurants. Away from the glitz, it’s still a place of classic calypso rhythms and world-famous rums. The Barbadians, called “Bajans,” are a warm and friendly people who are always ready to greet you with a smile.
