The two of us held the large back logs in the fire place that heated the home,
heated water for bathing and washing clothes,
for cooking, for heating the flat irons. We were the "holder"
of the early heating system. Made of heavy iron, enduring the hot flames
as two of us stood side by side and heavy back logs spaned our width we serve the
early America rural homes with strength.
These fire dogs ( fire irons) were created from old buggy wheels by a blacksmith in Surry County, NC in 1921.Their age shows, but as strong and durable as day they were "born". The buggy wheels would have to be at least 25 years as the time these fire dogs were made. a rare find for someone.
