"The "Over-Winterers"
(A fresh snowfall has covered the landscape at the Haines Falls Station in February 1917."
At the turn of the century, the Catskill Mountain House and Hotel Kaaterskill stood side by side in hostile competition, each defiant of the other, overlooking the Hudson Valley. Sitting monastically in their mountain perches, they were the undisputed centerpieces of the mountain playground. The black bears, the catamount, and all the rest of the wildlife in the Catskills had been displaced by the eastern coast's vacationing throngs.
