Some one tossed a seed away
The wind picked up its fall
It landed in a small round pot
With soil enough to cover
The rain and sun found their way
And nurturing days abound
The little seed became a twig
And soon the twig a flower.
The flower gave its way to growing
And soon a little melon showing
The size of my thumb, I guess
I watched in wonder as it progressed.
Soon its strips all in place
It's life line secured, I waited
Made sure that water and sun was there
And then mother nature gave to me
The little melon you now see
I was hesitant to cut its umbilical cord
But felt the fruit now instored
And my heart ached to see inside
But never a knife would there abide.
The picture you now see
Is the tiny gift to me
In my kitchen, I behold its beauty
Until nature calls home a treasure.
