I assume that these chairs are to be placed in historical context representing a time when Jews and Blacks were barred from numerous places. These chairs, therefore, become an incongruous expression of the prejudice and segregation these groups experienced. Turn around is not always fair play!! It makes me wonder, however, what was in the rest of this scene.
