Your close crop makes this a image that captures my imagination and allows me many interpretations. One is that the thumb hand is instructing the smaller hand as they both relate to the fact of ever present history as symbolized by the statue.
The narrow composition with just the hands and the sculpture is well balanced and tells the story that you titled so well. Excellent choice of BW too, Bravo !
