Thought this gull ( from Jodrey Pier and Rocky Neck Park Gloucester) was a possible 1st to second yearGreat Black-backed Gull. I did find a site from Galway that has a couple of Euro's that look an awful lot like this gull but without the worn coverts. It does look somewhat like a GBBG white under parts, dark centered scapulars, all black bill, only thing is the size was way off, maybe because of bad nutrition / body condition. It was definitely more Herring size. Although some of these shots were taken on different days, in different locations not too far from each other actually, there are indicators it is the same bird, like the absence of tail feathers, the projection n the left leg joint. Is this a possible Vega? This bird is in heavy molt, only partial tail feathers, missing primaries, coverts well worn, bill black but lightening up around base. I am guess 1st year molting to 2nd.
