interesting gull same bird last year http://www.pbase.com/suzsull/image/134211710 Note that bill still has extensive black towards tip, a feature one would not expect in an adult bird. Also note the leg color, very grayish/bluish tone, another unusual feature for a Herring gull.
This bird was instantly easily recognized from all the other Herring Gulls
