I visited this gull several times from 12-4 -11 to 1-02-12, which was the last time I saw it and photographed it. All photos are digiscoped and cropped. This spot faces southeast and is almost always looking into the sun and difficult to photograph. Gray is also not easy to evaluate under these conditions. The last set of photos (1-2-12) are probably in the flattest light. Although reported as a LBBG, I do not believe it is a LBBG. The bill is strong, on the large side, the mantle is not quite dark enough, wing pattern does not seem to match LBBG. Variables I guess a LBBG could have, but all 4? Works against that id in my opinion. Hybrid LBBG X HEGU seems to be the most likely id and would explain many of the factors working against LBBG. However after seeing this website http://www.birdingetc.com/2011/12/gulls-galore.html and the similarities to the atlantis form of Yellow-legged Gull, otherwise known as the Azores Gull, I would not rule this species out entirely. Unfortunately the subject bird is molting its primaries which confuse the issue even more, making any conclusion suspect. Compare with possible LBBG X Herring here http://www.flickr.com/photos/petercrosson/6583486059/in/photostream/ . Interesting!
