Cadiz was the scene, 200 years ago, of the defeat of the Spanish Armada at the Battle of Trafalgar. (Read more at: http://www.voodoo.cz/victory/trafalgar.html) San Lucar, a few kilometers away, sits at the mouth of the Guadalquivir River, from where Magellan began his quest to circumnavigate the globe and Columbus left on his 3rd voyage to America. The sea, the river and history dominate the area. It has the "feel" of the Atlantic Ocean, not the Mediterranean coast of eastern Andalucia.

We took the boat trip up the river to the entrance of the Donana National Park, probably the largest wetlands in Europe where millions of birds, including flamingos, visit. The pictures below are a selection from these places.
