We easily crossed the border into Portugal via the beautiful bridge over the Guadiana, and noticed changes in the landscape. The Algarve, southern coast of Portugal, is rugged and the land green. We stayed in Sagres, the western-most point in continental Europe, where fisherman hang precariously over the edge of the cliffs to fish -- a truly remarkable sight. There are NO guardrails.
We stopped for lunch in Salema, a tiny little village filled with European tourists; In Lagos we ate the most incredible meal at a little spot we found by following the scent of garlic!! We were introduced to berbigao, small clams cooked in olive oil with garlic, salt and cilantro. Truly memorable!
