Abandoned cabin in Lincoln county, New Mexico
I sensed a great deal of sadness here. It was not on any map, just along a narrow dirt road, way up in the mountains.
The shelves were bare, and the glass windowpane was gone, leaving only a mesh screen and tattered curtains.
I speculated at the time that the people who built a cabin in this desolate area planned to strike it rich by finding gold.
But things didn't pan out and they had to abandon their home and their dreams.
When I visited, it was very cold and the wind was sharp as a knife.
Nature's ceaseless winds had shredded the curtains; just as their dream of mining riches was shredded.
