Part of the remaining 18 acres of what used to be known as McKee Jungle Gardens,
in Vero Beach, Florida.
It used to be an 80 acre attraction, popular from the Thirties through Sixties,
but was overshadowed when the "fantasy parks" grew up around the state -- particularly
in the Orlando area -- leaving the native Florida garden attractions without
sufficient funds to survive.
So 62 acres of McKee Jungle Gardens were sold for condominium development
in the late Seventies, distressing those native to the area quite a lot.
The condos could have been built somewhere else.
