This is the last year, my hubby will be planting his crop business.
Plans to sell off the machinery by next year.
The farm, dairy and crop business has been in the family which he took it over after the dairy cows were sold in the mid 80's. (where it was just him and his dad milking the cows)
For years besides a full time job, crop farming about 100 + acres. (70-90 acres of soybeans, 30 acres of corn and 10 acres of hay).
The weather for this Spring has made it very hard for local farmers, many have not been able to plant their corn/soybeans on schedule with the constant rain and not enough time to dry up the fields.
I think this has been the worst year for farming besides the droughts we went thru back in 1999.
Our farmers have suffered through these hard times of drought for years with many closing their gates & giving up too...always so tough on the land. Sorry your husband is going to lose what he's always known.
It's good that your kids got to have the farming experience. My mother planned for one of my grandfathers to teach me about farming, but that never happened. Farming is a lot of work and there are too many factors you can't control or predict that determine success.
Very nice capture, Sue Anne. It must have been a very tough decision, my heart goes out to you and your family. I hope in the end this last crop works out well for you. Our prayers are with you.

A sad story, Sue anne. This is happening way to often. Hopefully things will turn around.
