American Bittern

Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary, Naples, Florida Everglades

Hidden amongst the vegetation is a shy, camouflaged bird.
The bittern, or thunder pumper, so named because of the loud "oong-ka-choonk" call,
is known to hold its head skyward to resemble the background grass.
This is a priority species on Audubon's Watch List.

Have seen these a few times usually after they have taken flight. Hard to spot especially in cattails. Very nice.

Really nice and clear.

Great how you got the focus on the bird - wondering if that was auto or manually focused.
