An evening of Carnatic Music, Montreal, Canada, Oct 12, 2007

My daughter, Trina, a native Floridian just got back from India where she spent wonderful five months learning Carnatic music. History of Indian music began more than 2,500 years ago and is thought of as divine in nature. The development of Carnatic music goes back to the 14th century. Carnatic music developed in South India predominantly features the vocalist as the soloist, but instruments like vina, flute and violin are also often seen in a solo context. European violin was introduced to Carnatic music in early 1800's. There are several important differences between the Indian violin and Western violin. They are tuned differently and Indian violin is held in a sitting position with the scroll set on the right ankle and top of the body on the left side of the collar bone area.

Wonderful composition.
I love how you captured her expression on this image.
And very interesting storyline indeed.

She looks confident and beautiful!
And thanks for the education in music . . . wish this was sound-o-vision =)
I also found it interesting about the differences in the violin . . . potentially less neck fatigue, huh!
