Late one evening as I walked up to the kitchen window I noticed these two quail hunkered up against the fence. Looking a little odd, I grabbed my binoculars
to take a closer look and noticed all the quail babies (an even dozen) underneath dad trying to stay warm and out of the rain. Out of instinct the babies crawl underneath the parent
and then push themselves up into the downy warm feathers. What you can see is the chest and tummy of one of the babies and the legs of another as they try to do just that.
Many babies will not survive summer rain storms...:((
