I needed the whole 10 seconds from the self timer to make it to
the bench, just made it, whereas the Nikon boys had 20 seconds to meander along.

It's us!!! :o) NB. Nikon self-timers are 10-secs just the same as Canons - the rest is shutter-lag... allegedly ;o))
