12/10/2019 - WEYMOUTH, MASSACHUSETTS (NORFOLK COUNTY) - Around 0845 hours on the morning of Tuesday, December 10, 2019 the Weymouth Fire Department responded to 14 Patricia Lane for a reported basement fire. Engine-5 signed off with heavy smoke showing, and advised they were stretching a line. Shortly after their arrival, a working fire was requested. Around 15-minutes later, a second alarm was ordered, bringing additional mutual aid to the scene and to work. Crews had heavy fire in the basement, extending upwards in the occupied 1.5-story wood framed dwelling. All occupants were reported out of the building, prior to the fire departments arrival. As the firefighters battled the fire in the basement, crews on the first floor noted fire in the walls in several location. Numerous hand lines were stretched into the A and C sides of the structure. It was apparent that firefighters were battling the flames, as well as a high volume of contents in the structure, which hampered firefighting efforts. Crews were able to knock the heavy fire down within 30-minutes, and completely extinguish the blaze within an hour. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. No injuries were reported. Weymouth firefighters were assisted on-scene by firefighters from Quincy, Braintree and Hingham and also by South Shore Hospital EMS and the American Red Cross.
