12/03/2012 - Around 0230 hours the Whitman Fire Department responded to 55 Brigham Place off of South Avenue for a reported outside fire. Engine-2 and Car-2 responded. Companies arrived to find a large fire in a wood pile that was less than ten feet away from an occupied dwelling. Deputy Chief Joseph Feeney requested that the box be struck for manpower and to have Engine-1 respond to the scene. Engine-2 grabbed a hydrant and crews pulled off the bumper inch and three quarter pre-connected hand line, and then grabbed a two and a half inch attack line off the rear of the truck. Both hand lines were used to knock down the heavy fire. Engine-1's crew checked the interior of the house for extension with the thermal image camera, but no extension was found. The vinyl siding on the "D" side of the house was melted due to the close proximity to the fire. The fire was knocked down quickly. Companies were tied up for about an hour on the scene. No injuries were reported.
