WHITMAN, MASSACHUSETTS (PLYMOUTH COUNTY) - At 1250 hours on the afternoon of Saturday, November 19, 2016 the Whitman Fire Department received a call for a reported structure fire at 600 Franklin Street, the maintenance building for the Whitman-Hanson Regional High School. Engine-243, Engine-242, Ladder-246, and Car-3 responded. A mutual aid engine from Hanson also responded. Companies arrived to find smoke showing from a chimney on the roof, but also noticed light smoke coming from the eaves of the metal clad building. A heavy smoke condition was found inside the building. Crews found a fire in a commercial dryer inside the building. As Engine-242 laid a supply line from the hydrant, a pre-connected hand line was stretched from Engine-243 and the fire was quickly knocked down. Crews opened up the large garage doors in the building to ventilate the heavy smoke condition inside. The fire was determined to be started by lint build up under the machine. Plymouth County Sheriff Departments BCI Unit responded for photos. No injuries were reported.
