11/03/2011 NFPA Fire Sprinkler Demonstration Quincy MA
11/03/2011 - The National Fire Protection Association held a side-by-side live burn demonstration with two identical rooms, one with fire sprinkler protection, and one without. The NFPA held the demonstration in protest to the MA Board of Building Regulations and Standards decision to omit the provision requiring fire sprinklers in new one and two family dwellings. The decision of the BBRS puts the lives of residents and firefighters at risk of injury or death. This protest showed the unpresidented support of several different fire service organizations, including the Massachusetts State Fire Marshall, the Fire Chiefs Association of Massachusetts, the Professional Firefighters of Massachusetts, the Massachusetts Call/Volunteer Firefighters Association, and the Fire Prevention Association of Massachusetts. 400 communities in the US now require home sprinklers. California, Maryland, and South Carolina have adopted the provision statewide. More information of residential home sprinklers can be found at NFPA.org.
