10/30/2009 - We stopped in to the Highland Park, MI firehouse for a visit on the afternoon of the 30th. Their old station was condemned, now they call a 200x200 metal clad warehouse home. Dispatch and offices are housed in trailers in the building. The firefighters bunks were made by a firefighter out of ply wood. Dispite the living conditions, the firefighters we met were in great spirits and pretty funny. Highland Park rarely receives or gives mutual aid. They work with 5-7 firefighters on shift, and get no additional help. An engine company from the City of Berlkley, MI were visiting the station for training. We followed them on a box alarm at 224 Highland Street, which we were told has been attempted to be set on fire numerous times. The box was a false alarm.
