10/07/2014 - Just before noon time on the afternoon of Tuesday, October 7, 2014 the Plympton Fire Department toned out for a reported house fire in the area of 170 Main Street. Companies arrived to find smoke showing from the eaves of a two story wood framed dwelling. A working fire was requested, followed shortly there after by a second alarm. Mutual aid from Halifax, Carver and Kingston all responded to the scene. Companies made an aggressive interior attack on the fire in the old farm house. Crews made quick work of the fire, knocking the heavy fire down within fifteen minutes. Eventually, a third alarm was struck, bringing additional firefighters to the scene, and a Hanson engine company for station coverage. The Massachusetts Department of Fire Services Rehab Unit was requested to respond to provide rehab services to the firefighters working on-scene. A mutual aid ambulance was requested to respond for an evaluation of at least one firefighter on the scene. It is unsure if anyone was injured or transported from the fire ground. A representative from the State Fire Marshall's Office was requested to respond to the scene. The dwelling was occupied, but it was unclear if the homeowner was in the house at the time of the fire. The Halifax Animal Control Officer could be seen removing one cat, which was alive in a carrier cage from the scene. It was reported that other animals in the house may have not survived the blaze. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
