07/09/2019 - ROCKLAND, MASSACHUSETTS (PLYMOUTH COUNTY) - Shortly after 0700 hours on the morning of Tuesday, July 2, 2019 the Rockland Fire Department responded to the area of 80 Market Street, at Reed's Pond for a report of a vehicle in the water. Companies arrived to find a car completely submerged in the water. Witnesses reported that a man had pushed the vehicle into the pond, and then walked away. A limited response of the Plymouth County Technical Rescue Dive Team was called in to search the vehicle for any possible victims and to assist with the recovery of the car. Divers entered the water and were able to quickly clear the vehicle, not finding anything inside. The vehicle was secured to a recovery vehicle and removed. Divers remained on-scene for approximately 3-hours while they conducted the dive operation, and decontaminated their diving equipment. The person who reportedly pushed the vehicle into the water was later found on Plain Street by police, where he was transported to a local medical facility for a mental health evaluation. No injuries were reported.
