03/25/2007 Whitman MA held the first ever National Medal of Honor Day at the Colbrook Cemetery on Essex Street at 1300 hours. This ceremony was to honor 1st Lieutenant John Robert Fox who was killed in action in 1944 while battling the Germans in Sommocolonia, Italy. Fox was awarded the Medal of Honor, Distinguished Service Cross, Bronze Star and the Purple Heart.
