03/21/2019 - WHITMAN, MASSACHUSETTS (PLYMOUTH COUNTY) - Around 1340 hours on the afternoon of Thursday, March 21, 2019 the Whitman Fire Department responded to a reported fire at 81 School Street. Engine-243, Ladder-246 and Car-3 responded on the initial alarm of fire. Ladder-246 arrived on-scene and reported fire showing from a 2-story multiple family dwelling and requested a working fire. The working fire assignment brought Hanson and East Bridgewater engines to the scene, and an Abington engine to cover Whitman's fire station. Crews worked quickly deploying a 1-3/4" hand line and were able to knock down the fire in the first floor apartment. The fire apparently started on the stove top and spread to the rest of the kitchen. The fire was completely knocked down within 15-minutes. The fire caused a reported $60,000 in damage. The official cause of the fire is under investigation, but it does not appear to be suspicious. All occupants were able to successfully make it out of the home and no injuries were reported.
