02/12/2015 - WHITMAN, MASSACHUSETTS (PLYMOUTH COUNTY) - The winter of 2015 will go down in history as one of the snowiest in history for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Record snowfall, including two blizzards within a month, sent municipalities scrambling to keep up with the several feet of snow that was received in such a short time. The town of Whitman, as well as many other cities and towns across the State, received help from the Massachusetts National Guard on February 11th and 12th. Guardsmen worked for at least two days in Whitman assisting Whitman Firefighters with clearing fire hydrants, and even assisting with clearing the roof of the Central Fire Station on Temple Street. Firefighters and residents alike would like to thank the Massachusetts National Guard troops who came out and assisted with the clearing of hydrants and all of the other work they performed.
