ABINGTON, MASSACHUSETTS (PLYMOUTH COUNTY) - Just after 1100 hours on the morning of Wednesday, February 7, 2024 the Abington Fire Department struck a box for a reported house fire at 835 Hancock Street, at the corner of Chestnut Street. Abington Engine-4, Engine-3 and Ambulance-2 responded. Due to Abington Tower-1 being out of service, Holbrook Ladder-1 was dispatched on the initial response. While responding, crews were updated that the police were on-scene and reported a fire in the house. A working fire was requested, bringing engines from Rockland and Whitman to the scene. C-2 arrived to find heavy smoke showing from a 1.5-story wood framed dwelling. All occupants were reported out of the house when firefighters arrived. Crews stretched multiple hand lines to quickly knock down the fire on the first floor of the house. Holbrook's Ladder-1 crew threw a ground ladder to the roof to open up. The Rockland engine assisted with interior operations and overhaul, while the Whitman engine stood by as the RIT team. The cause of the fire is under investigation. One person was transported from the scene by Whitman Ambulance-249. The nature of the injuries was not immediately known.
