02/07/2012 - Just prior to student dismissal on the afternoon of Tuesday, February 7th, 2012, a 9-1-1 call came into the Hanson Police Department reporting a possible pedestrian struck in front of the Whitman-Hanson Regional High School at 600 Franklin Street. Hanson Fire and Police and Whitman Fire and Police all responded to the high school, as it sits on the town line. Companies arrived to find a adult male who stated he was struck by a vehicle and then fell under the school bus. The victim, a bus driver, was apparently struck by a car that was driven in between the buses, as they were parked along the entrance to the high school. The buses park on either side of the roadway in front of the school to pick up and drop off students. The car was reportedly driven in between the buses, a fit that was tight enough to scratch the mirrors of either side of the car. The victim was transported to the South Shore Hospital via advanced life support by Whitman Ambulance-2. No other people were injured during the incident. Police took several statements from witnesses who state the victim was struck by the car. The Plymouth County Sheriffs Department BCI Unit was on-scene for documentation. The cause of the accident is under investigation.
