02/04/2012 - Over four hundred firefighters made up the over thirteen hundred participants that participated in the American Lung Associations "Fight For Air Climb" that was held at One Boston Place on Saturday, February 4th, 2012. The annual event started with civilian climbers making the trek up forty one flights of stairs around 0900 hours. The firefighters division began around 1230 hours. The last climber arrived at the top of the Mellon Financial Center around 1500 hours, seven hundred eighty nine steps from the first floor. Participants were spaced out to start their ascent fifteen seconds apart. Nearly all of the participating firefighters donned their full turnout gear, including their SCBA. Some of the climbers even went on air during their climb. All of the participants of the event were responsible for a $35 entry fee, as well as a $100 minimum. This annual event is also held in several other cities around the country.
