01/28/2011 - Brockton Firefighters were alerted to this fire at 43 Cherry Street, at Huntington Avenue, around 2100 hours. Car-56 signed off with heavy fire showing from a 1-story wood frame house. The initial call reported an occupant trapped. When firefighters arrived they found the home owner, a 97-year old woman, had been rescued by her 19-year old neighbor. Both were transported to local hospitals for smoke inhalation. Crews encountered heavy fire inside the dwelling, but were able to quickly knock down the heavy fire. The State Fire Marshalls office was requested to respond to the fire.
