01/03/2014 - Shortly before 0700 hours on the morning of Friday, January 3, 2014 the Whitman Fire Department responded to a reported motor vehicle accident at 680 Auburn Street. Companies arrived to find a backhoe that had rolled off the road and was on its side. The area was searched, but no victims were located. It was later discovered that the operator of the backhoe was extricated and transported by co-workers prior to the fire department's arrival. The extent of the injuries were unknown. Heavy duty wreckers needed to be brought in to remove the backhoe.
