Saturday we start the day at Qumran on the shores of the Dead Sea which is the site of the caves where the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered. We got an education on who the Essenes were. They hid their library of of Old Testament scripture from the Romans so they could not destroy them. Ruth and Esther are the only books of the Old Testament not found yet.

From there we went to the Monastery of ST George near the Kelt River. This is where the Prophet Elijah hid from King Ahab and Jezebel (1Kings 17:5). We continued to Kazer-El-Jahud on the Jordan River where John the Baptist baptized Jesus (see photo, not much to see). This is also a boundary between the Jordan and Israel. We were escorted to the border point by 4 Israeli army soldiers

We went on to visit Beit-Shean, one of Ten Roman Cities where Jesus taught and on the walls where the bodies of King Saul and Jonathan were hung (1Samuel 31:8).
