This massive elevator was capable of lifting 46,000 pounds. This is the elevator pit with the elevator platform above. It is a roped hydraulic elevator that uses a pressure system that is pressurized when lowering the elevator so that even if the elevator loses power it can be raised so that the opening in the deck is closed so that bombs cannot be dropped into the hanger deck.
