Maastricht! I recall a number of years ago when the Maastricht Treaty was signed by the EU members (rather, some of the EU members, not all) in order for the limits on currency fluctuations be set by pre-approved limitations. Oops, we digress...back to your stunning image!

What technique you described to pre-focus and then, with one deft turn, appear before your surprised subject and snap, while it makes its escape from the dangers of your Zeiss/R1 lens! ;)

Thanks Vincent. It looks perhaps like a wildlife shot but this shot was taken in a city park near my work on my lunch break. I was standing on top of the old city defensive walls near the centre of Maastricht (look here for some extra information regarding these walls forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1009&message=24220657). The herons in The Netherlands are getting urban but are still easily scared. The R1 is no action camera so I prepared the shot while being invisible, bended over the edge of the wall en the heron set off as planned and I took the shot.

Thanks bottles. It definitely wasn't the heron calm as I scared him/her away...

Wow! Do you work in this environment? A nature preserve? A zoo? Or, an office overlooking a nearby lake? How stunning.

Oh my goodness Jo, it's hard to say which of your entries I like best; they're all just beautiful. I suppose, if I had to pick, this one would have to be my favorite. What a great shot and just perfect for the theme!
