Many thanks, Justin, for your friendly words. I do absolutely agree with you on the calm that can be enjoyed by "even a crowd" (as you say); and I do appreciate your description of what you see looking at this image of a beach on a winter sunday-afternoon. -- db.

A very nice capture that shows calmness doesn't require solitude - even a crowd can enjoy calm moments together - everyone enjoying the long shadows and warm light along that wide, sandy beach, with the waves slithering their way up the long even sloping shore.

Your compliments, VincentNYC, make me blush: I am not exactly a modest person, but I don't think my photographic "work" deserves such praise; incidentally, the voters in the Challenges don't think so either ;-) I am glad, though, you like some of my entries and my pbase-galleries. And I do share your admiration for Calatrava's architecture; a very close friend of mine even thinks I "fell in love" with those buildings in Valencia (where the lights of the main opera hall, BTW, where also made to be movable--and to function, consequently, as a very special stage-curtain--never were "put down" because of the theater's administration's fears it might not work properly... Thanks a lot for all your kind remarks! -- db.

Daniel: I like your photographs so much that I clicked on your name and, lo and behold, found your pbase gallery! What a stunning collection/body of work!

You travel a great deal! As a long time admirer of architecture, I found your pictures of Santiago Calatrava's architecture most interesting. He really does know how to capture the feeling of "soaring"! I find virtually all his work to be breathtaking. Living here in NYC, we are going to have our first Calatrava building soon...a train station near Ground Zero. Sadly, last week, it was announced that the glass roof, which was to open up to open sky during the nicer days and closed during the inclement days, will be now "non moveable" due to budget issues. Sad, but it's reality, I suppose.

Thank you for your gorgeous submissions and, even more so, your simply stunning body of work on your gallery.

Daniel, love all your beach photos. The ocean (water) has always been my "calm". Nothing washes away the stress and anxiety like time spent watching and listening to the ocean as it greets the shore.
